Pediatric Dentistry

At our Cherry Hill, NJ, dental clinic, we provide family dentistry services so you don’t have to take your children to a separate dentist. We treat everyone from babies to the elderly, so everyone can come for checkups at the same time. Our goal is to provide quality, convenient dental care.

Why It’s Important to Start Young

The dentists at our Cherry Hill, NJ, dental clinic believe that establishing a relationship between your children and the dentist early on is critical to their health. Dental health is closely related to other aspects of physical health, including heart, kidney and liver health. Different studies show that anywhere from a quarter to a third of people have a fear of the dentist. This fear often prevents them from getting the care they need, sometimes resulting in tooth loss.

When you bring your children into our Cherry Hill, NJ, dentist office, we ensure that their first experience with the dentist is a good one.

How We Acclimate Children to the Dentist Office

We recommend you bring your child in for their first appointment around their first birthday. At this time, our dentist will examine the teeth they have, the shape of their mouth and look for any abnormalities. This is a great opportunity to get your child used to the dentist office, and when they come back in six months, they are likely to remember their good experience and feel relaxed.

By the time children are 2 or 3 years old, they get not only an exam, but a cleaning as well. This is done in the gentlest manner and with all the necessary props that keep kids relaxed so we can get the job done. We make it look easy!

A Good Foundation in Dental Care

With proper brushing and flossing and the right amount of fluoride, your children should be able to avoid getting cavities. If you allow them to eat or drink sugary foods or beverages, encourage them to brush their teeth or at least rinse afterward. Some children are cavity-prone due to genetics, but this is uncommon.

Once children get their adult molars, we encourage you to get sealants for their teeth. Sealants help keep out bacteria and have helped many children avoid cavities for decades.

We also evaluate children for orthodontia. Braces may be recommended as early as age 6 in cases in which thumb sucking has changed the shape of the palate. Braces are sometimes put on for a year or two and removed, then put on again in the teen years after children have grown.
